Professional Image

So I'm taking this course, and I need to discuss whether or not this is how I want my profession represented (the nurse, that is). Here's what I'm wondering.... Is there a difference between how each of these pictures represents the profession in question? Does either of these two professions have more of a reason to be upset than the other? Any thoughts?

for some reason, i only get pissed when people look down on my profession as uneducated, unskilled, or unintellectual.

because i don't equate either of those pictures with stupidity, i don't have much of a problem.

who am i to say that the public shouldn't think of me or any of my colleagues as dead sexy?

by the way, you don't look much like the nurse. she gets a much cleaner shave than you do.

I think that with the picture of the fire fighter it is much more likely that he is actually in the profession then with the female(?) nurse, so honesty is the first thing that comes to mind, so I don't know that it at least in my mind that it does represent the nursing profession. Second that particular picture reminds me of something that would come out of a sewer or something to eat your arm in a Stephen King book. In general I think that there is a huge difference in the two if we assume that both are in the suggested profession. The female (?) is dressed in the outfit that is only simular to a nursing outfit and not actually a real nursing outfit and the Fire fighter is in his bunker gear and has just fought a fire and is getting cleaned up. I think it is all in the honesty and what is trying to be captured in the photo. Does that answer the question? Oh well what can I say.

They both play to what most people want; they want the people they come in contact with to be beautiful people. If there is a choice I believe most people would choose the more attactive person; whether it be the checker at the market, where to sit at the coffee shop, or who to date - most will choose the more attractive person.

In any case, she can give me a sponge bath anytime.

While I have to agree that the firefighter looks more authentic than the "nurse," Jeffrey, where do you get the idea that he just came back from fighting a fire? Is that what you want or expect to see?

The nurse doesn't seem to representing a profession as much as a sex fantasy or charicature of the profession, perhaps because her uniform isn't realistic (even for the 40's when female nurses wore the little dress uniforms), although firefighter don't go shirtless in uniform either.

I tend to see the gender differences here - the nurse seems sexy, perhaps because she's female or her pose or her outfit? the firefighter could be taken as sexy (since he's not wearing a shirt) but his facial expression seems more like "fun" than "sexy". Is this because they are different genders? Would the nurse in the same pose as the firefighter look more fun than sexy or vice versa? (Unit, wipe the drool and assume the nurse isn't going shirtless when she crosses her arms, but perhaps is in a sports bra)... Just my thoughts...
